Our Position: Transparency Over Empty Promises
We could tell you llms.txt changes everything. Instead, we'll tell you the truth – and why acting now is still the smart move.
The Current State – No Sugarcoating
Let's start with the facts: As of March 2026, there is no official confirmation from major AI providers – OpenAI, Google, Anthropic – that they actively read llms.txt files to generate answers. A study by ALLMO.ai, analyzing over 94,000 AI citations, found llms.txt in fewer than 0.002% of cases.
That's the uncomfortable truth. And as a provider of an llms.txt generator, we believe it's our responsibility to say it clearly.
Why Act Anyway? The Historical Perspective
Every web standard we take for granted today was once where llms.txt is now:
Proposed by Martijn Koster, initially unsupported by any search engine. Today, every crawler in the world reads this file. Time to broad adoption: ~3 years.
Initially only used by Google. Yahoo and Microsoft followed in 2006. Now a universal standard. Time to adoption: ~2 years.
Joint initiative by Google, Bing, Yahoo, and Yandex. Despite this backing, significant adoption didn't occur until 2015+. Time to adoption: ~4 years.
Proposed by Jeremy Howard. Active development, growing community. Anthropic already hosts its own llms.txt files. The adoption phase has just begun.
The pattern is clear: standards typically need 3–5 years to reach broad adoption. llms.txt has existed for less than two years. Those who prepare now will have the advantage.
What Already Works – Independent of llms.txt
Our tool suite optimizes areas that demonstrably influence AI citations:

- AI Crawler Configuration – Whether GPTBot, ClaudeBot, or PerplexityBot can reach your pages is checked by our Robots AI Check.
- Clear, Factual Content – AI systems prefer unambiguous, verifiable statements over marketing fluff.
- FAQ Sections – Question-answer structures get directly incorporated into AI responses.

Every successful web standard took years to reach adoption – early implementers always had an advantage. Implementation takes minutes, causes no harm, and our GEO tools improve your AI visibility today.
GEO encompasses far more than llms.txt: Schema.org optimization, AI crawler configuration, and FAQ structures demonstrably improve your chances of being cited in AI answers.
The most comprehensive study by ALLMO.ai analyzed 94,614 URLs and found no measurable correlation. However, the standard was only a few months old at the time.
Schema.org is an established standard with proven SEO benefits. llms.txt is a new proposal (2024) specifically for AI assistants. Both complement each other.
Our Bottom Line
We make our living from llms.txt – and we're still telling you honestly that the standard is in its early days. Because trust is worth more than short-term sales. And because our tools deliver real value even without universal llms.txt adoption.
The question isn't whether AI optimization will matter – it's when. And whether you'll be ready.
