Which Metrics Matter?
Not every bot visit is equally valuable. Focus on these key metrics:
Crawl frequency describes how often a bot visits your pages. Daily visits from GPTBot are a strong signal – your content matters to OpenAI. Weekly visits are normal. No visits at all means you're invisible to that platform.
Page coverage shows which URLs get crawled. If only your homepage is visited, the bot is missing your product pages. Ideally, the bot crawls product and category pages equally.
Response codes reveal technical issues. 200 codes are good. 403/429 codes mean your server or CDN is blocking the bot. 404 codes point to dead links in your sitemap or llms.txt.
Bot diversity measures how many different AI platforms crawl you. The more different bots visit, the broader your AI visibility. A store visited only by GPTBot is only visible to ChatGPT – not to Claude, Perplexity or Gemini.
Interpreting Your Results
Scenario 1: No AI bot visits at all
More common than you'd think. Possible causes: your robots.txt blocks AI crawlers, your website is too new or has too few external links, or your CDN/WAF blocks bots at the server level. First step: check your robots.txt.
